 With some camera basics, simple techniques and rules, you can take control back and make images that truly match your original creative vision. Most cameras have a Program (P) Mode which handles exposure and all you have to do is press the shutter release. While P-Mode is handy, you are turning creative control over to your camera.

It makes no difference whether you are using a SmartPhone, Point & Shoot or DSLR, each of these has additional modes, such as Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual Modes which will give you more creative options. 

Topics to be covered include:

• Light values for night, overcast and bright daylight
• Aperture (f/stops), Shutter Speed and ISO - the exposure triangle
• Depth of Field, hyperlocal length, how it varies with focus distance and lens focal length (e.g. zoom)
• Aperture vs. Shutter Priority and Manual Modes

After the basics are covered, we will explore a variety of shooting / scene scenarios and apply the exposure knowledge we have gained. These will help make the concepts second nature as you go out into the world and shoot.

You can bring in your camera to learn where these creative controls have been hidden away and uncover a host of new shooting possibilities!

Instructor Bio: Ken Rothmuller has been shooting images since getting his first camera as a teenager. Later in life he had both a B/W and color darkroom before switching over to a digital workflow. More recently he has had the opportunity to study under some great mentors, including: Jay Maisel, Joel Meyerowitz, Eddie Soloway, and Margo Davis.

Ken especially enjoys traveling with his camera allowing him to see new places more deeply, cementing memories and giving him the opportunity to interact with locals.
