A short video is a great way to start your film making journey. Making a 5 minute piece will require you to get organized around storytelling, interviewing, workflow and more.

Join Katie Jennings to get started on your project. We’ll workshop your idea to turn it into a story. We’ll develop interview questions, consider location choices, practice 3-point lighting, and learn tricks for getting great interviews. We’ll coach you on what’s next and how to make it happen.

Please come to class with your idea and your camera (camcorder, DSLR or smartphone) and a tripod if you have one.

This is a safe supportive space to float ideas and get started on your dream project.

Workshop is open to all levels.

Katie Jennings
Since 1983 Katie's natural science and cultural history documentaries have won numerous awards and film festival screenings. She has produced projects for National Geographic, the National Science Foundation, public television, art museums and private clients. Her Pacific Coast First Peoples films are featured at national museums and in the collections of over 250 international university and college libraries.

Katie is an award winning PBS documentary filmmaker and owner of New Canoe Media. She works with artists, scientists, educators, First Nation elders and Fortune 500 companies to make sure their essential stories make it to the screen.
