Making real food at home more often is one of the most important things you can do to improve your health. Not only are whole foods more nutritious than processed ones, but getting in the kitchen early helps kids build lifelong self-care skills and love of healthy food. Doing this with a busy life, however, means learning flexibility and how to “cook imperfectly amidst the chaos.”
We’ll spend the first part of this uniquely structured class preparing some kid-approved lunch foods that can be made in advance to keep well all week in the fridge, including PB+J Power Balls, Amazing Rainbow Salad, Creamy Butternut Kale Soup, and Sassy Sesame Noodles.
We’ll learn to identify whole foods and will also discuss science-based tips for feeding children in a way that promotes growing up with a healthy relationship to food. In the second part of the class, we’ll enjoy our tasty lunch while getting “down and dirty” with some hands-on meal planning.
Each participant/family will have the opportunity to create and decorate their own “meal planning binder” and fill it with starter recipes and menu ideas. We’ll also practice making a “10 minute meal plan” for the week.
