Want to learn to sew, discover Dresden quilt techniques and make a market bag? Sign up for the Druthers with Dryden class with Jennifer Kakutani. This three session class covers sewing and quilting basics, making sample projects and the grand finale: a quilted market bag. This class is open to 12 and older, we hope to see families come sew together.

Session 1 (July 8) Dresden Basics and Fabric Social: Learn the basic skills for tracing, cutting and assembling 1-2 small Dresden quilt tops. In the class we will have a fabric social, sharing fabrics you bring. The quilt squares you make will be used in the next two classes.

Session 2 (July 15) Dresden Choice Project: You will use the Dresden quilt top from the first class to create either: 2 pillows shams,1 table runner, or the first steps of the Dresden market bag.

Session 3 (July 22): Making your Market Bag: Complete the simple construction of a market bag with 2 zippered pockets highlighting your Dresden quilt top on both sides.

Details:

• What to Bring: for session 1, 4-5” scraps of fabric to share as we get to know one another in a fabric social, each student will be sent a fabric list to bring for class 2 and 3.
• Materials fee: $25 for quilt batting is included in the price of class. Students will be given a fabric list for the market bag.
• Skill level: Beginning
• Prerequisites: Sewing machine orientation- times will be sent to students.
• Ages: 12 and older- we encourage parents, grandparents to take this class with youth for summer fun.

Instructor Bio: 
Jennifer Kakutani received her BFA from the Corcoran School of Art and Design. She was also an MFA candidate at the University of Washington School of Art Fibers Department. She loves sewing with people of all ages!
