Build an end table in a mid-century modern style as you learn variety of techniques that you can apply to future furniture projects.

Details

Using solid wood, you will make a table approximately 17½ inches wide, 17½ inches deep, and 24 inches tall, perfect for situating at the end of a couch or beside a bed. The design, based on a simple plan that the instructor modified, includes:

  • Continuous miter joints (creating a “waterfall effect” with the wood grain).
  • Compound tapers.
  • Loose-tenon Domino, rabbet and locking-rabbet joints.

You'll learn to follow plans; mill rough wood to size; join the milled boards to form the top, bottom, and sides of the table; cut and taper the legs and aprons for the table base; build a drawer box; and assemble the components into a finished table. Applying finish is not included in the class — you'll need to complete that later, on your own.

Materials

A $90 materials fee, included in the price of the class, covers everything you need.
