Come draw the human figure with us! Sessions provide a variety of poses and exercises to further develop both the artist’s eye and hand. Come have fun, mess up, be challenged, and join the crew!

To create a focused space for the group, please register online by 4 p.m. the day of the class. Please contact BARN if you need assistance registering.

Details

  • Plan to arrive 15 minutes early so you have time to set up and prepare. Doors will close promptly at 5:30 PM.
  • We'll begin with a brief introduction to studio culture and the week’s model.
  • Sessions typically begin with a series of short gestures (dynamic poses not easily held for longer than a few minutes) as warmup for both artists and models.
  • After a short break, the remaining time will be structured into 20-minute poses, relieving the model with breaks.
  • Easels are available. All dry materials, watercolor, and India Ink are welcome. Please no acrylics, oils, or turpentine.
  • The class fee covers compensation for the model. If you wish to show extra appreciation for the model's skill, time, and professionalism, you're welcome to leave an anonymous tip in the box provided.

Materials

  • Bring any drawing materials you prefer, such as large drawing pads, drawing boards, newsprint, vellum, drawing pencils, willow charcoal, gray-scale conte, graphite, smudge sticks, kneaded erasers, rand rags.
  • Watercolors are also welcome, though acrylics, oils and turpentine are not currently invited.

Class Policies

  • Ages 18 and up are welcome.
To ensure the privacy, comfort and safety of everyone, please note the following:
  • Models should be treated professionally and with respect.
  • Please silence cell phones during class.
  • No photography, video recording, or image sharing via text, online, or in print.
  • No personal questions or remarks directed towards or about the model.
  • No inappropriate gestures, touching, or repositioning the model.
  • Only registered participants can be present during class.
  • Only enter and exit the studio room when the model is robed, and doors have been opened by the class moderator.
