Think of this as letterpress without the letters. Almost. Because whatever letters we do use will be big and manageable. We might even print some upside down. Along the way we will surprise ourselves with a few discoveries. Most of the experiments will result in abstract prints.

Working with transparent inks and overprinting, in broad, quick strokes, we will emphasize familiarity with the press. You can expect to learn the mechanics of pressure and position.The aim is to prepare you to use the press independently. 

Letterpress experience is a plus but not required. Printmakers welcome!

• Open to all levels
• A materials fee of $10 is included in the total price of tuition.
• Please feel free to bring a bag lunch. BARN has a refrigerator you can store your lunch in.

Carl Youngmann and Ellie Mathews operate The North Press in Port Townsend and are not afraid of seeing new approaches to making art on letterpress equipment.
