About

A stencil can be used as a shaped plate and also as a resist.  By layering with shapes and colors, the artist can create depth and reveal surprises in the finished print.  In this workshop we will make stencils and use them to create layers over prints made with other media, like collograph plate prints or collaged work.

Participants can bring their own collograph plates or pieces in progress to layer over, or create backgrounds and plates in class.

Details:

• Some experience helpful but not required.  
• The materials fee of $20, included in the price of the class, covers collograph plates, stencil material, and one sheet of professional grade paper.
• Additional paper is available for purchase at $5 a sheet.
• Feel free to bring lunch or snacks; there is a kitchen in which you can store and reheat food.

About the Instructor

Martha Makosky has been a printmaker for 15 years and an artist all her life.  She learned printmaking upon moving to Bainbridge in 2002, and has studied with master printmakers locally and internationally.  She finds the most fun in learning new techniques and combining them in different ways, collecting and layering materials in response to the emerging image.  The ink flows, the time goes, and who knows how the print was made.  See more of Martha's work at www.marthamakosky.com.
