About

This class has prerequisites. Please see below.

LaserLab is ETA's hands-on Laser class where you'll learn some new techniques for using the Lasers in ETA by making something real.

We'll make something different in each class and practice some LightBurn and Laser skills. Each project will give students options for customizing the design to make it their own. This is a great way to get some supervised practice with both the lasers and LightBurn.

This Month's project: Make a box of poker chips!

We'll start with a design that makes 125 poker chips (plus a few extras) and a storage box for them. You can customize the chips with different values, or other text. Also add your own custom artwork to the box or leave it plain.

You'll learn by doing - You'll be guided through using LightBurn software to modify the design and learn a spiffy technique for keeping things lined up while putting artwork on both sides of the chips or moving your project between the two lasers. Then, each student will set up, engrave, and cut out their chips and box parts. Finally, you'll assemble the box and be ready for your next high-stakes poker game!

Instructor:

Mike Schrempp is enjoying retirement after spending 39 years in the design and development of computers.  He’s done product development, mechanical part design, engineering management, and architected servers used in big data centers at Amazon and Microsoft.  Now he enjoys making things -- from wood, plastic, metal, food, and Python code -- and showing others some of the tricks he’s learned along the way.
