Ready to take your lapidary skills to the next level? Got a favorite piece of lapidary rough you’ve been waiting to make into something spectacular? In this class learn how to create perfectly matched earring pairs and safely drill holes into stone.

Session 1: Cut & polish earring pairs

You will learn multiple ways to cut and polish matching earring pairs as well as tips and tricks for drilling holes in stones.

Session 2: Assemble your earrings

Several soldering and bezel setting examples will be shown and instructor will provide suggestions on your specific design ideas.


Details:

  • Level: Intermediate 
  • Prerequisites: Intro to Lapidary. Also, must have previous soldering experience with Smith Little Torch and basic jewelry making skills. See dates for Intro to Torch here. Please login to your BARN account and click on "My event registrations" to ensure you have completed the required prerequisites before you register for this class.
  • $35 materials fee is included in the tuition. This covers stone and tools, not metal. 
  • Sterling silver is available for purchase. Please bring cash or check. 
  • We will take one 15-30 minute break if you want to bring food/snacks. BARN has a refrigerator to store your lunch, located on the lower level.

Instructor:  

Karin Lee Luvaas is a local Bainbridge Island artist and jeweler. With an art degree in encaustics, painting and metal sculpture, Karin has studied under acclaimed jewelry masters Michael Boyd, Kent Raible, Petra Class, and Sarah Graham and achieved Graduate Jeweler status under Alan Revere of the world renowned Revere Academy of San Francisco, California.  Karin is also a GIA certified Graduate Gemologist and holds a Jewelers of America Bench Jeweler Technician certificate.
