Have you ever seen something that you wished could be incorporated into your knitting? Flowers? Geometric designs? Why buy a pattern when you can design your own? In this class you will create your own colorwork motif using graph paper, knit a small sample, and then adapt that motif to become a custom cowl pattern. Class discussions will include color choice, scale, and adapting designs for gauge.

    • Experience level: Intermediate. You should have some experience with colorwork in knitting.

    Students should bring:

    • Two skeins of worsted weight yarn (different colors for colorwork), 
    • Size 8 16” circular needle

    A $15 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers handouts, graph paper, and colored pencil.

    Project

    Each student will leave with a pattern adapted for their motif by slightly modifying the stitch count and adjusting the pattern repeat.

    Class Policies

    • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
    Instructor
    Betsy Hagestedt

    Betsy has been working with fiber since she was in elementary school, having learned to sew and knit from her mom. As an anthropologist, she uses her fiber practice as a means of connecting with people from other cultures, embracing the universal nature of fiber arts. Knitting gradually became her specialization due to its portability as she began to travel around the world. You can see some of her fiber experiments on her Instagram feed at behestknits. Since starting at BARN she has been learning as many new skills as possible. She is highly involved in torchworking in the Glass Studio, and has started dabbling with welding and woodturning.
