Kiln Carving with Fused Glass
Add 3D to your fused glass creations!
Use your creativity to transform a flat piece of glass into 3-D form using the kiln-carving technique.
Kiln carving, which combines fusing and slumping to achieve bas relief, or carved effects, is a technique glass artists want in their repertoire. Now you can! This also is a great introduction to fused glass.
Learn to create texture and a sculptured appearance in your piece, and how to take it in new directions by adding embellishment, additional texture, and colors.
First we’ll discuss design fundamentals and plan your project. A number of designs will be provided but you're encouraged to bring your own design sketch or photo inspiration to class. Next, you’ll create your own kiln-formed bas relief using an X-Acto knife and fiber paper, and learn how to correctly place your glass into the kiln for firing.
