We will talk about the studio culture, the Jewelry Studio's safety procedures, as well as, cover many of the things to watch and listen for as a monitor, learn how to open and close the studio and talk about what a monitor does. Being a monitor is a great way to volunteer at Barn and it gives a member more access to jewelry studio. If you are interested in becoming a monitor, this class is a prerequisite. This class will have a little hands on time, but it is mostly about information exchange.
We recommend you read chapters 4-6 in the book A Jeweler’s Guide to Apprenticeships by Nanz Aalund. Copies are available in the studio’s library. This will give you a lot of relevant information. (If you want a copy of the books tests to fill out, ask a Jewelry Studio Monitor).
