Work on projects of your own choosing in BARN’s fully equipped Jewelry Studio.
Open Studio time allows members, guests and students a collaborative environment to finish projects from previous or currently enrolled classes, to work on projects of your own choosing, and to have access to an amazing array of jewelry making equipment. A trained safety monitor is always on duty.
Details:
- To be eligible to work during our Open Studio hours, you must complete a skills assessment session or already be cleared for open studio and have an up to date Skills Card. Check the Jewelry Studio calendar for dates when these classes are offered and sign up to reserve a spot.
- You will receive a studio orientation during your skills assessment session.
- Instruction will not be given, open studio time is for self directed working.
- BARN supplies tools and basic shop supplies, some metals are available for purchase in the studio, please partner with the studio monitor.
- Free for Members.
- $20 drop in fee for Guests. Please bring cash or check made out to BARN. No need to register.
- Safety! Please wear close toed shoes, avoid loose clothing, tie long hair back, and refrain from wearing dangling jewelry so it doesn’t injure you or get damaged. Noisy equipment may warrant wearing hearing protection. Safety glasses and/or a dust mask must be worn when using specific equipment, please partner with the studio monitor for specifics.
- Food is allowed in the common area, BARN has a refrigerator to store your food and snacks, located on the lower level.
- Lapidary available: 3.29, 4.5, 4.19, 4.26 (prerequisite: must have taken intro to lapidary to use equipment during open studio)
Currently registered students are encouraged to take advantage of Open Studio hours to stay on track and/or complete projects begun in class.
Once you have completed your skills assessment session, your key fob will be updated so you have access to the Jewelry Studio during scheduled Open Studio times.
If you’re a non-member (or a member who has forgotten your key fob) and find the front door locked when you show up for a class or open studio session, please call the studio and we’ll let you in. Jewelry Studio phone number is 206-842-4475, ext 213.
