This is an intermediate level class which means you have taken at least three beginning classes and can solder well on your own. 

Learn to make your own faceted stone setting with Jody Lyle, in this 3-day class.  We will be fabricating several different kinds of setting out of copper, brass and sterling silver.  We will talk about different kinds of setting and different shapes of stones.  These three classes are spread over 3 weeks, so in your spare time, you can practice building and complete pieces that incorporate the settings you make in class.  The techniques learned in this class will improve your overall stone related skills, giving your more freedom of design.  Bring ideas and stones you want to work with.

BARN will provide copper and brass sheet and wire for students to make their pieces. There will be some silver for purchase if you choose. 

The studio has these tools but students may want to bring their own: pliers, files, point burnisher, sanding sticks, small round burs, setting and heart burs, flat and square gravers, setting punches, dividers, caliper, flex-shaft hammer hand-piece, Benchmate vices, other vices and magnification eye wear.

Instructor: 
Jody Lyle is a goldsmith with over 24 years of experience designing and making jewelry.  She has a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas where she studied with world-renowned enamel artist Harlan Butt.  She has continued here education over the years with apprenticeships, trade school training, and skill building classes.  She believes in learning by doing, and continues to home her skills, practicing and acquiring new techniques and is continually expanding the definition of her jewelry.
