About
In this 4-session workshop you will learn about the many different ways to make boxes and lockets. Instructor, Nanz Aalund, will demonstrate technique and shed light on the mystery of hinges and clasps. Different ways to create hinges, such as classic tube hinges, tab hinges, and rivet swivel hinges will be examined and are a few of the possibilities that you can learn.
The class will examine and discuss traditional hinge making technique and flat panel technique. Investigate clasp options for boxes and locket while learning design implementation and material limitations for use in clasps. This class will offer additional design time for students to experiment with design choices for their projects.
This is an intermediate to advanced class. Students need to have taken an intermediate class or two and be able to solder well on their own.
To keep the focus on learning technique, this class will be working with copper and brass, but students may bring their own sterling silver sheet to use or buy from BARN. We will be making lockets and boxes with flat panel hinge technique, since making is often the best way to add new techniques to our memory. Your instructor, Nanz will show new uses for familiar tools and tricks of the trade, which will help you gain skills in this workshop.
Materials fee: $20 will be added to class fee when you register.
