About

Join us for this Beginners/Intermediate one day cold forging class. What is cold forging? Cold forging mean we will be hammering the annealed metal at room temperature. Using hammers and saws we will divide and shape a copper rod into a double ring shape. Learn to anneal, move, taper and flare the metal. It doesn’t have to end up being a ring, you can push this design as far as you want to. The goal is to learn how to get the metal to do what you want, when hammered.

Students Please Bring: Earplugs, any hammers they want to use for smithing or texturing, files and pliers. BARN has plenty of mandrels to use during the class. Bring any heavy gauge silver wire you want to use instead of  copper (8 gauge or heavier). Copper is included in class fee, silver is extra. Please wear comfortable shoes that protect your toes.

Instructor: Jody Lyle is a goldsmith with over 23 years of experience designing and making jewelry. It all started in a high school jewelry class which lead to a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the University of North Texas , to be followed by many jewelry classes and workshops all over the west. Outside of the classroom, the world’s influences continued to inspire her with travels to places to view art in Egypt, Greece, Mexico, and the British Isles. Jody’s jewelry collections have been shown throughout New Mexico, Oklahoma, Colorado, the San Francisco bay area, and now on Bainbridge Island. Jody continues to hone her skills, acquiring new techniques and is continually expanding the definition of her jewelry. As a child Jody learned that for a day to be satisfying, one had to make something. This is simple but it still holds true.
