This focused Open Studio is set up for enameling — the process of fusing powdered glass to another surface with high heat — whether you’re working on independent projects or completing class work.  A trained safety monitor is always on duty. This isn’t a class and no formal instruction is given.

Details

  • You’ll have access to the kilns and equipment needed to fire your enamels.
  • Do your metal prep before attending. You won’t have access to any other tools or equipment.
  • Registration, which is required, closes the night before at 11:59 PM.
  • If no one has shown up by the end of the first hour, the monitor may close the studio. If you know you’ll arrive more than an hour after the start time, email Registrar@bainbridgebarn.org by 11:59 PM the day before.

Materials

  • A $16 materials fee, included in the price of the class, covers the use of enameling powders (basic colors) available in the studio and used during this session.
  • You should bring a cotton apron and towels to dry metal and hands.

Prerequisites

  • You must have completed Introduction to Enameling: Opaques or its equivalent elsewhere.

  • You must have a current Skills Card, which identifies the tools and equipment you're qualified to work with.

  • If you don’t have a Skills Card but have previous experience, you can fill out a form requesting a Skills Assessment.

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.

  • Wear closed-toe shoes and natural-fiber clothing.

  • Do not wear loose or synthetic-fiber clothing, scarves, or ties.

  • Do not wear dangling jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets.

  • Tie back beards. Tie back long hair in a bun.
