Beginning and continuing printmaking students, during 5 evening sessions (one per week), will get to know the print studio's tools, equipment, supplies, and practices. Students will learn how to use inks and low-toxicity clean-up methods while practicing the three primary forms of printmaking: monotype, intaglio, and relief.   There will be integrated work time in preparation for our studio skills competency evaluation.  The evaluation checklist will be reviewed on the last day of class, and completion can qualify BARN members for fob access to the studio.  This is a comprehensive course at a great price: it works out to be $16/hr for 20 hours of instruction.

This course is for:

• Those seeking the skills needed for working independently in our print studio: during monitored open studio for non-members, and with free fob access for members.
• Beginners or continuing students desiring a refresher on skills training, and those wanting to learn and practice monotype, intaglio, and relief printing methods
• Those wishing take intermediate and advanced classes the will build on what is learned in this course

The ability to express your creative vision comes with knowledge, practice, and mastery of beginning skills. We see it as a mutual investment by you and our print instructors with the hope that you will become a long-term part of our community, able to continue with courses or work confidently on your own time here at BARN or elsewhere.

Details:

• No prerequisite is needed.  
• Students should make an effort to attend all class sessions.  If necessary, arrangements may be able to be made for making up a session, subject to availability of instructor. 
• A materials fee of $25 will be added to the price of class when you register. Materials include 1 plexiglass plate, 1 linoleum block, 1 Essdee lino cutting tool kit, 5 sheets of 12"x18" student grade printing paper, and all necessary ink.  
• Professional grade paper is available for purchase in the print studio as needed.
• Feel free to bring a meal or snacks. Food is allowed in the common area adjacent to the studio classroom, and there is a kitchen in which to store and reheat. 
• This class will be cancelled if it has not reached the minimum needed to run by 5 days prior to first day of class.
