About

This class was postponed on Thursday, May 2, by Martha because there is only one student in it. She is going to consult with the instructor and choose another date.~tammie

This intro class meets once per week for 3 weeks. Open to beginners and continuing printmakers wanting to learn and practice the basic skills listed below, which are necessary for building confidence and competency in the studio. The focus will be on relief printing with Soft Kut, which feels much like a gum eraser.  It is fun and easy to carve, and does not require a press to print.  Once learned in the studio, this process can be done at home.

Class Structure:

  • Day 1: Intro to studio layout, tools, and equipment, mixing of inks and cleanup practices, transferring images to blocks and beginning to carve.
  • Day 2: Carving and printing; exploring layered printing.
  • Day 3:  Refining and polishing with the goal of 3 finished prints.
  • Potential for building on these skills: next session of 3-week intro class will use the same image using intaglio printing techniques, with the goal of creating a "quilt" to be built with finished prints from different techniques.
  • This class begins to prepare you to complete the Skills Competency checklist for fob access to print studio.  We recommend taking an additional class to solidify your skills.

Details:

  • Prerequisites: none.
  • A materials fee of $20 is included in the price of class. This fee covers a block, ink, one sheet of professional grade paper and unlimited student grade paper.  Additional linoleum and paper is available for purchase in the print studio.
  • Feel free to bring a meal or snacks. Food is allowed in the common area adjacent to the studio classroom, and there is a kitchen in which to store and reheat.
  • This class will be cancelled If minimum registration has not been reached 5 days prior to the first day of class.

This introductory class is taught by a rotating roster of experienced BARN studio printmakers.
