About

Beginners and continuing printmakers, during this daytime course of 3 sessions (one per week), will learn and practice the basic skills needed for mixing ink, using the press, and sharing the studio with other printmakers, as well as practicing the techniques used in monotype, which is the manipulation of ink on a smooth plate to create a single, unique image.  This course is a thorough immersion into monotype and is a great value: it works out to $15/hr for 12 hours of instruction.

This class is for:

  • Anyone needing foundational instruction or refresher about the print studio tools, equipment, supplies, and practices
  • Those interested in practicing monotype method of printmaking within the structure of the intro class
  • This class qualifies as a prerequisite for intermediate and advanced classes and workshops offered by the print studio
  • This class alone does not qualify you for working independently in the studio, but this class plus either Introduction to Printmaking: Intaglio or Introduction to Printmaking: Relief prepare you to complete the Skills Competency checklist for fob access to print studio

Details:

  • No prerequisite needed.  This is a introductory level class.
  • A materials fee of $15 will be added to the price of class when you register, which covers ink and 5 sheets of 12"x18" student grade printing paper.  Additional paper is available for purchase in the print studio.
  • Feel free to bring a meal or snacks. Food is allowed in the common area adjacent to the studio classroom, and there is a kitchen in which to store and reheat.
  • This class will be cancelled If minimum registration has not been reached 5 days prior to the first day of class.
This introductory class is taught by a rotating roster of experienced BARN studio printmakers.
