About

Learn the art of intaglio printing in this simple, beginner workshop. We will scratch an image or a design into the surface of a thin acrylic plate and then print using oil-based inks.

This 5-hour workshop is a great introduction to printmaking and using the studio's etching press. All aspects of intaglio, or incised printing, will be covered, including how to properly condition and ink your plate, dampen paper, wipe the plate, and calibrate the press for beautiful printed imagery.

Details

A materials fee of $25, included in the class fee, covers everything you need.

You are encouraged to bring drawings or design ideas to class to turn into your print, either 5" x 7" or 6" x 9".

Project

An edition of paper prints made using incised acrylic plates. Students can take home their plates at the end of class so they make additional prints later.

Class Policies

Ages 14 and up are welcome.

There will be a 30-minute lunch break around 12:30. BARN has a mini kitchen with a refrigerator where you can store a sack lunch.

Instructor
Dana Seeger

Dana Harris Seeger was born in San Francisco and split her childhood between California and Indiana. She pursued her passion in high school and college and received a bachelor's degree in painting from Anderson University in Indiana in 2004 and a master's in fine arts in printmaking from San Jose State University in 2011. She is a member of the California Society of Printmakers. In 2014, Dana co-created an art studio and school in San Jose, Calif., called the School of Visual Philosophy. Her work in printmaking and painting helps her connect real to imagined memories and her life experiences to her heritage. Growing up as a second-generation Baltic American, she has always tried to connect the artifacts acquired from Estonia and Latvia into her own story. She lives in Poulsbo with her husband (a sculptor), daughter, and twin sons. Visit her website at www.danaharrisseeger.com
