About

Learn something of the rich world of hand planes, which are powerful tools that come in many variations. They enable  woodworkers to achieve results from flattening and squaring up boards to fitting joints precisely and preparing wood for beautiful finishes. Hand planes also are fun to use!

In this class, you'll learn to:

• Identify the anatomy of a plane and the purposes of its parts.
• Set up and adjust a plane to get fine shavings.
• Take long, continuous through shavings using proper grip, stance, and movement.
• Smooth a surface, ideally to the point where you can go directly to finishing.
• Square an edge to the face of a board predictably and easily.

The class also will touch on various planes and their uses, safety, and various ancillary tools and aids.

A $5 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.

Class Policies

• Ages 14 and up are welcome.
• Wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
