Learn the basics of turning wood on a lathe in this group intro class, which will focus on spindle turning. Students will make samples and choose a simple project to complete in this class: a pen, salt shaker, wooden egg, honey dipper or tea light candle holder.

Completing this class will also  qualify you for Coached Turning Time, when you will have a lathe for your exclusive use. 

This class will cover wood selection, tool types, sharpening, and lathe adjustment and accessories, including different types of chucks. 

Wood will be supplied but, depending on the project chosen, students may need to purchase metal parts, such as caps or pen kits.

No experience is necessary. 

 INSTRUCTOR: Bruce Claiborne is a retired Bainbridge High School teacher who volunteers regularly at the high school shop to help students with their turning projects.
