Wednesdays, October 12 & 19 from 9 to 11 am

Learn the fundamentals  of making beautiful wooden pens as you also learn safe use of a lathe and its chisels.

In the initial class, the instructor will discuss the basic concepts of turning, using the modern pen as a model. Using a drill press and a lathe, students will turn a pen, using the techniques covered in the  class. The next week is a guided practice session. Students will get one-on-one instruction to hone skills learned.

Beginners are welcome. All tools and materials will be provided, with the materials fee included in the basic fee.

INSTRUCTOR: Oscar Barbo has been a woodworker and turner for more than 25 years. Oscar is well traveled, learning his turning in Hawaii, where he relished making pens from the local Koa wood. He often uses rare woods and non-wood materials like bone and antler. He finds himself in our area looking share his skills, promoting pen design.
