About
Learn to make three different styles of penguins. You’ll have time to make a small family during class and leave with enough knowledge to make your own tuxedo-clad colony on your own.
You'll practice shaping gathers of glass and learn about hot connections, cold seals, and encasing. You’ll look at images of penguins and simplify a design to render in glass, turning your rods and gathers into organic shapes with enough detail to capture the essence of a penguin. Build from there to make more complex sculptures as your skill level allows. Throughout the class you’ll be learning skills that you can apply to myriad sculptural forms, especially other birds. This class will use borosilicate glass, but the techniques will also transfer to soft glass with some adjustments.
