Ghee: Homemade ghee (a type of clarified butter) is unparalleled in flavor! By making it at home, you control the quality of the ingredients and save money on inflated markups at specialty stores. And, it makes a great homemade gift for friends. Prepare ghee yourself and learn the ways it can be used for culinary, health, beauty, and even household applications.

Dal (Lentils): Learn how to make creamy, delicious, and tasty dal (a vegetarian side dish) at home using the ghee we just made! Learn how to make a versatile “base” that can be used to flavor multiple varieties of lentils while expanding your knowledge and usage of lentils.
 
No experience is needed. Beginners welcome!


Project

You'll leave with about 1.5 cups of freshly made ghee, along with the knowledge of how to prepare it and use it in the  kitchen and beyond. And you'll gain the knowledge of how to make homemade dal (lentils).

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • A $20 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need in class.
  • Wear closed-toes shoes to class.
 
Instructor
Sandra Mehta

Sandra has been pursuing her passion for cooking for more than 30 years. Her interest in cooking was sparked as a teenager when she was assigned the job of sous chef in her family’s home kitchen. She didn’t know it at the time, but she was getting a rigorous and advanced education about what it means to prepare food, combine complex flavors, detect for "doneness," blend spices, and offer it all up in tantalizing and mouth-watering presentations. Sandra is excited to share her experience, skills, knowledge, heritage, and passion for cooking and entertaining with you at BARN!
