In this class you will:

  • Learn how to thread your machine and wind a bobbin.
  • Get basic maintenance tips to keep your machine running smoothly.
  • Understand how a stitch is made and trouble shoot common stitch problems.
  • Learn proper hand placement for relaxed, accurate sewing.
  • Practice sewing simple straight and perfect curved seams for any project.
  • Learn the different sizes and types of needles for basic sewing projects.
  • Other sewing basics like seam allowances, stitch settings and tension.
Note: Please bring your sewing machine manual, all power cords, pedals, etc.

Instructor Bio: Leah Boyan currently teaches machine sewing at the Madrona Waldorf School on Bainbridge Island.  She's taken fashion design classes at the New York Fashion Academy in Ballard.  When she's not sewing her own clothes or drafting her own sewing patterns, she's dreaming about her next sewing project.
