Explore the art of letterpress in this introductory class. Letterpress is a traditional printing method (invented in the early 1400s in Germany by Johannes Gutenberg) that involves pressing an inked, raised surface onto paper to create multiple copies of an image. It's also known as relief or typographic printing.

You'll use wood type, ornaments, and/or cuts for your custom holiday card designs. You'll learn how to lock the type securely in a galley tray, load it into the Challenge press, and print. After printing, you'll trim and score the prints to card size and pair them with envelopes. At the end, we'll trade prints if desired, so everyone can go home with an assortment of their own and their classmates' work.

Bring a lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave you can use on the lower level.

A $10 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers the all materials you'll need, including cards, envelopes, and ink.
