Do you have a BARN story to tell? Want to help others share theirs? In this free, one-hour class, you'll learn the fundamentals of conducting oral history interviews and discover how to become a volunteer interviewer for a year-long project celebrating BARN's first decade.

2027 marks BARN's 10th anniversary, and we're getting ready by gathering the voices that built this community. Lindsay Ogles, director of exhibits and engagement at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum, will introduce the craft of oral history: how to prepare for an interview, ask questions that draw out a good story, and record it well.

You'll also hear how the project unfolds over the coming year, resulting in a new oral history collection housed at the museum and featured in BARN's anniversary celebrations. No experience is necessary, just bring your curiosity and listening skills.

  • Skill level: All levels — no experience necessary.
  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
  • This class is free; registration is required.
  • Bring your curiosity and a BARN story if you have one.
  • This session is also being offered early evening on September 23, if a better fit for your schedule.
Speaker
Lindsay Ogles, Director of Exhibits and Engagement for the Bainbridge History Museum, has had a lifelong love of history. As a public history and museum professional, she has worked with local history organizations and collections to showcase a variety of figures and experiences across communities and eras.
