“Tree down!” A common occurrence in the Great Northwest, and many of us want to save some of that tree – let it live on in a work of art or practical project.

In this class, you will learn how to save the wood for woodturning or carving into a bowl, spoons, tool handle, pretty box, or other project. And if you are contemplating taking down a tree and want to save the wood for something other than firewood, you will learn helpful tips and get sources for portable saw mill operators, drying, etc.

Wood that’s simply left on the ground or that's cut up and tossed into a pile will split, crack and eventually rot. Here you will learn how to care for the fallen tree from the beginning: how to select the best wood from the tree, how the wood should be cut up if you or someone you hire is using a chainsaw, and how to seal the wood effectively and store it.

The instructor will also show how to use a band saw to prepare raw wood for turning or other uses.

Details:

• A materials fee of $5 to cover shop supplies will be added to the class fee when you register and pay.
• The class will be held outside, so please dress appropriately. There will be flying wood shavings, and they are attracted to fleece!
  
• Safety glasses and hearing protection are needed during the chainsaw demonstration. Bring your own or plan to use those in the shop.
