About

Are you captivated by painted warps and want to know how to prepare a warp for dyeing? In this workshop, you'll learn how and actually dye them. The instructor will share different dye patterning techniques. And you'll create your own hand-painted Tencel for a shawl or scarf.

The goal is to understand how to make a warp of flowing colors in this mini color theory class. You'll learn how to have a dyed warp that is not tangled and how two skeins can be used as weft or separate projects.

You'll wind your own warp and tie it in a specific way that controls the warp while dying. You'll apply and set the dye,  take it home to finish rinsing, and put on the loom to weave.

Details

  • Make your selection when registering for either a scarf or shawl.
  • Wear clothes for dyeing
  • Bring a lunch each day. There is a microwave and refrigerator on the lower level you can use.

Details

  • A materials fee is included in the cost of the class and covers Tencel for dyeing, gloves, masks, plastic wrap, dyes, and tie cords.
  • Bring an apron, scissors, tape measure, note-taking materials, and a bucket or plastic bag to take wet fiber home.

Class Policies

Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Instructor
Teresa Ruch

I took my first weaving and dyeing classes at Oregon State University and have been chasing fibers since. I was a sample weaver at Pendleton Woolen Mills for 5 years then a woven textile designer and colorist for 12 years. I then started my own business as a production weaver and dyer specializing in Tencel yarns. I developed my own technique in painted warps which I have been refining for 25 years. Color is my passion.
