About

BARN member:  $70
Non-member:    $80

Learn to use hand tools to make rabbet, dado and lap joints, mortise and tenon joints and dovetail joints.

Rabbet, dado and lap joints are often used in projects ranging from building a simple box or bookcase to elaborate pieces of furniture

Mortise and tenon joints are among the strongest of woodworking joints and commonly found in chairs, tables and other furniture projects .

Dovetail joints are  often seen as a hallmark of fine craftsmanship, especially when they are cut by hand and fit perfectly

In this class you will get to lay out and cut these joints in practice pieces of wood using hand tools, and get tips on how to fine-tune the fit so the pieces mate together nicely.

This class is suitable for woodworkers with limited experience, but you must have completed Hand Tool Essentials or have permission from the instructor, Dick Culp.

There will be a materials fee, not to exceed $15, payable to the instructor, to cover wood for practice cuts.

Students can use BARN's tools, or bring their own. The instructor will provide a tool list in advance of the class for students who prefer to bring or purchase their own tools.

INSTRUCTOR: A hand tool devotee, Dick Culp has taken many classes at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking and will be sharing what he's learned. He serves on the school's Board of Directors and was a director of Bainbridge Island Community Woodshop until it merged with BARN at the end of 2013.
