About

If you are looking to incorporate more complex shapes in your fused glass pieces, and the commercial laser cut shapes aren’t what you are looking for - then the ring saws and grinders are the tools for you. This is a Skill Building Project Class where you will practice cutting curved shapes without the aid of cutting systems or the circle cutter. You will use a glass cutter to initially make free hand cuts then clean and refine your cuts with three of the studio’s basic coldworking tools. Your project will be an 8-inch round plate with embellishments you create.

You will learn how to set up and use the ring saws and grinders and how to clean them up after use. You will assemble your plate, decide if it will first be either full or contour fused, and then it will be slumped into a gentle swoop mold. Plates will be available for pick up the following week. Completion of this class will give you access to these tools to work on your projects during Open Studios.

Details:

  • This is an intermediate class. Experience with fused glass is recommended.

Instructor:

Nancy Adams:   "I have loved everything glass since I was a young child.  During the 70’s I dabbled in stained glass.  I discovered playing with fused glass at Mesolini Glass and became intrigued with techniques and processes for manipulating the glass.  Retirement in 2017 opened the door for the opportunity to pursue glass experimentation, and to share with others what I have learned."
