About
Most every blade smithing student asks if they can make a sword. While the answer is yes, you first must learn to walk. The butter knife project is a great place to start your journey into blade smithing.
Learn the basics of steel identification and how carbon and alloys affect steel and its ability to perform as a blade. You'll learn basic concepts of heat treatment and tempering by running colors. We’ll also discuss basic edge geometry and proper filing methods. These skills will help you become better and more proficient blacksmiths and you'll become familiar with blacksmithing safety, techniques, and equipment. You'll make their own version of the project.
Blacksmithing is simple but not easy. Come and enjoy a day at the forge. But be careful, this ancient art is very addictive!
