About

While instructor Yori Seeger was visiting Tallinn, Estonia, he was delighted by the smithing skills demonstrated in all the old and new metal craftsmanship. The simple latch pictured here is a great example of that work, and Yori wants to teach you how to make one of your own. If there is time, he'll teach how to make the nails, too.

In this introductory blacksmithing class, you'll learn the fundamentals of properly handling red-hot steel using tongs to move it from forge to the anvil. In the process of making this latch, you'll use hammer, tongs, and anvil to bend, shape, taper, and punch holes in hot metal.

Blacksmithing is a simple craft, but it isn't easy to master. Come and enjoy a day at the forge with some like-minded people, build your blacksmithing skills, and make something useful while you’re at it.

A $25 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.
