Instructor Yori Seeger first saw this ancient tool in a museum in Tallinn, Estonia. Classic “C-shaped” fire striker steels are devices from another age, used by peoples around the world for over two millennia to make fire until matches were invented in the 19^th century.

These strikers are a lot of fun to make. Come enjoy a day at Yori’s forge, have a turn at using your fire striker to make fire, and unlock the secrets of blacksmithing.

BARN forge events are held in open-air, unconditioned spaces. Please dress accordingly.

A $30 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need.

Class Policies

• Wear natural-fiber clothing only (no synthetics that could burn your skin).
• Wear sturdy shoes with closed toes and heels. Sandals are not permitted.
• Ages 14 and up are welcome.
