About

BARN member: $79
Non-member: $110

This class teaches simplified pattern-making as you draft a pattern for a five-gore skirt based on your measurements taken at the beginning of class.

We will then construct a muslin to confirm pattern fit.  Fine tuning of the pattern will happen at the end of the break.

In the second half of the class, we will discuss design details and pattern modification.  You will cut out and begin construction of your final skirt, discussing finishing techniques and options for future projects.

To take this class, you must have basic sewing experience, and you must bring your own machine.

Please also bring the following items:

  • A see-thru grid ruler
  • Your favorite pencil
  • 3-6 yds of muslin (least expensive is just perfect).  For a quick estimate – take the desired skirt length +4” times 3.
FOR EXAMPLE:  From my belly button to my knee is 23” -- +4” is 27”…times 3 is 81” or 2-1/4 yards.
  • Bring the same amount of fabric for your “real” skirt.  If your final fabric is 60”, you may need less.  Feel free to contact me to get a better guestimate.  For this first project – NO KNITS.  Wovens only.  Again, please contact me if you have any questions.
  • One 9” zipper to match your final fabric.
  • “Trouser” hook and eye.
  • Basic sewing supplies, including matching thread, extra needles, pins, bobbins, scissors, etc.
  • A sewing machine in good working order. Don’t forget your power cord!
  • Instruction manual for troubleshooting
  • Sack lunch
