Thursday, June 4, & Tuesday, June 9

Learn how to transform weary clothing to produce a fresh "up-cycled" look for your wardrobe. In the course of two evenings, with a few days in between, we'll use our sewing machines and/or hand stitching to restyle T shirts or long-sleeve dress or work shirts. The instructor,  Mary Ann Tollefson, will bring wonderful examples to inspire and get us going!

Mary Ann's approach in doing this kind of sewing has mainly to do with imagination in design and simplicity in construction. T-shirt fabric is great to work with because it is forgiving, doesn’t ravel, is easy to sew, and is VERY inexpensive when found second-hand. Men's  long-sleeve cotton dress or work shirts also offer many design opportunities. Men's shirts are better than women's for this project because of their larger size.

Students should bring:
  • Several several large T shirts or men's long-sleeve shirts, the larger the better. They can be in compatible or clashing colors to mix and match in designs. Garments with minimal logos usually work best.
  • Sewing machine and usual sewing supplies
  • Heavy-duty thread for hand sewing
  • Yardstick
  • Pen or washable marker
