About

We’ve designed an after-school craft class for youth in BARN’s outdoor classroom this fall! For two Thursday afternoons you will learn the basics of making your own felt creations from wool fibers.

The first week you will make a simple bead that can be turned into a keyring or a necklace, or possibly a mini-creature. As time allows you can start a more complex project making a little critter or small figure.

The second week will be focused on another technique called ‘wet felting’ where you will create a landscape or simple design that will be turned into a small wall hanging.

You will learn how to layer the wool ‘roving’ to create color and depth in your piece. Bundle up for this outdoor craft experience under the canopies in BARN’s backyard. We’ll have an outdoor heater and serve hot cocoa and hot cider for extra warmth! Masks and physical distancing will be required. The fees for this class have been subsidized by a grant from the City of Bainbridge Island in support of youth programs at BARN.

Details:

  • This class is for youth 8-14 years old.
  • To register your youth, please put in the "First Name" field your first name then in parenthesis put the youth's first and last name (if different than yours). The email address you register with is where all reminders will be sent to.
  • Please complete and return this minor permission form if BARN does not already have one on file for your child from a past class.
  • Tuition assistance is available. Click here to apply.
  • BARN will be practicing safety measures for the health and well-being of all participants, in accordance with state and CDC guidelines. Students and instructors will be required to wear masks, wash or sanitize hands frequently, maintain a distance of six feet between individuals, and stay home if they are sick.  More details can be found here.
  • Dress warmly!
  • In gratitude to our members for their continued support during the closures, BARN is offering all classes for free to BARN members through December 2020.  Members are still responsible for paying materials and mailing fees, where applicable. If a class is full, please add your name to the wait list in case a space opens up or we are able to offer another class. Check our calendar frequently as more classes are being added each week!
