This is a hands-on workshop where participants will learn about the basics of autonomous cars and robotics in general (perception, localization, planning, and control) using the MuSHR (https://mushr.io/) developed at the University of Washington. The creators of the MuSHR will give an initial overview of the platform and the autonomy stack. Then students will get their hands dirty and run the autonomy stack on cars provided by the team. At the end of the workshop, you will be familiar with the MuSHR platform, the basics of autonomous vehicles, and be enabled to extend MuSHR for your own interests!
This workshop requires familiarity with the Linux terminal, and preferably some Python experience.

  • This class is free, but you must register. No drop-ins, please.
  • All ages are welcome.
  • This class is located in BARN's Great Room on the upper floor.

Instructor:

Matt Schmittle is a PhD student at the University of Washington advised by Siddhartha Srinivasa. His research interests are in using Bayesian and online methods for model-based manipulation. Matt earned his B.S. in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of Delaware. He has previously worked as a research intern in GRASP Lab at UPenn.
