This is part of a series of informal talks, hosted by the Electronics and Technical Arts studio. It is a way for a attendees to get a taste of a new subject. Admission is free! If there is enough interest, some of these talks may become starting points for classes in the future.

Title: fishBOAT: fish-like motion with "one" moving part, no hull penetration, and a simple design

Description: Martin Garthwaite presents the fishBOAT -- a drone watercraft which achieves complex fish-like motion with (almost) one moving part and no water-sealed bearings or hull penetration. Power utilization and bollard pull data from the initial prototypes will be presented, as well as designs for:

• A tow-craft (which can range in size from 1' to 80', suitable for data acquisition to towing barges) and
• An autonomous torpedo version (not necessarily a tow-craft).

Drive the second prototype in a demonstration tank! Learn about and see the human-powered fishBOOT, which lead to development of the fishBOAT.
