About

The Ham SIG (Special Interest Group) is open to newly licensed amateur radio operators (and OT/old timers alike),  those who are interested in becoming hams and the radio curious.

Each month there will be a different radio-related topic.  A presentation will be followed by a discussion and Q&A.

July topic:

WebSDR - HF Radio Using Your Web Browser!

Have you every wanted to checkout activity on HF (3-30 MHz) without investing in big antennas or expensive transceivers? Have you every listened to an HF Net and not been able to hear some participants? Did you every wish to have a “pair of ears” in a different part of the country? WebSDR could be the answer to these questions.

Join fellow radio enthusiast and learn about the potential of WebSDR. Specifically, we will:

  • Learn how to tune in CW, SSB, AM and digital signals using only a web browser and internet connection
  • Checkout WWV on various frequencies
  • Note frequencies that are good for monitoring SSTV (Slow Scan TV), RTTY, PSK31and FT-8 digital modes
  • Monitor beacons around the world
  • Set presets for your favorite frequencies

The talk will also serve as an introduction to SDR Technology for those who have focused primarily on VHF and UHF activity. If you want some hands-on experience, bring your laptop (and headphones) and following along.

Cost: Free to members and non-members. Please register so we know how many to expect.

Organized by BARC (Bainbridge Island Amateur Radio Club)
