About

The Ham SIG (Special Interest Group) is open to newly licensed amateur radio operators (and OT/old timers alike),  those who are interested in becoming hams and the radio curious.

Each month there will be a different radio-related topic.  A presentation will be followed by a discussion and Q&A.

May Topic: Weak Signal Digital Communications with FT-8

Since Joe Taylor (K1JT - WSJT-X author) introduced JT-65 back in 2004, interest in weak signal, HF digital has grown in popularity. Recently with the introduction of FT-8 mode, interest and usage has exploded. No matter what is happening propagation-wise, you will always find a number of FT-8 signals on “open” HF bands. Using the Reverse Beacon Network, with FT-8 spotting and signal reports, lets us compare antennas and their locations.  DX-peditions are starting to use FT-8 to run pileups and give out new countries.

Come join us and learn about FT-8, grid squares, Reverse Beacon Networks, operating procedures and share your experiences.

Cost: Free to members and non-members. Please register so we know how many to expect.

Organized by BARC (Bainbridge Island Amateur Radio Club)
