About

Building confidence in drawing skills can lead to more adventurous and satisfying printmaking. During 6 consecutive Monday evening classes, you will enhance your natural drawing abilities by exploring techniques that will help you to express your own vision as an artist.

Instructor Marc Cooper has broken down the facets of drawing into a series of exercises using a variety of materials. Key skills to be covered include: contour drawing, negative and positive space, values, perspective, pattern, color, composition, and, of course, developing your own style.  As Picasso once said, “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up.”

Marc will also link drawing skills with their natural extension into a printmaking practice and will visit the printmaking studio during the course of the class.  Open to anyone looking for a foundational introduction to drawing or drawing practice exercises.

Details:

  • Prerequisite: none.
  • The materials fee of $35, included in the price of the class, will cover sketch pad, conté crayons, chalk pastels, technical ink pen, and newsprint.
  • Students will provide their own drawing pencils and eraser.
  • There is a kitchen in which to store and reheat food, and food is allowed in the common area adjacent to the classroom.

Instructor:

Marc Cooper is an award-winning Art Director and artist. From childhood he has loved making art, and he has enjoyed a long career as an artist and commercial Art Director, with a focus on drawing, printmaking and publishing (both traditional and digital). He enjoys teaching and sharing his love of art, but, most importantly, he enjoys learning from those he teaches.
