February 18, 20, 23 & 25 and March 5, times vary
(February 20 will be held offsite)

Most doll artists believe the first doll you make is you, because a doll embodies the spirit of its maker. Your first doll making experience is significant because it’s the purest doll making process you will ever experience with no preconceived ideas about what it “should be” and no pressures to create a certain kind of doll that has to look a certain way.

What you bring to the table in your first experience is your need to create, your sense of color, pattern, design, the materials you love to work with, and your creative spirit.

What you will learn is designing your doll from concept to construction, the anatomy of a doll, creating and making armatures, making and using patterns, choosing and making fabrics and materials, gathering good “stuff”, tools in doll making, creating and making “parts”, the process of constructing the doll, and finishing and embellishing the doll.

Instructor: Sue Van Duine has been making art dolls for 10 years but has been an artisan her entire life. To create her one-of-a-kind doll sculptures she loves working with all fibers, wood, beads, paper, metal and natural materials she finds in woods and shore environments in Michigan and Bainbridge Island. She has shown her dolls in Art Centers, and Fiber and Doll shows in Michigan. She is a former educator and has taught art, creativity, and art doll making classes with children and adults.
