About

Join us for this 2 session class where you will learn two methods to sew beautifully finished fabric napkins.

We are excited to offer this chance to create a set of beautiful napkins.

In the Fiber Arts Studio you will learn a technique for revealing the straight grain of a fabric to cut perfectly straight and square napkins, and how important your iron can be as a tool for sewing good-looking hems without pins or basting. Then we’ll introduce you to two methods of creating a mitered corner; a finishing technique useful for napkins, place-mats, table runners and more.

This Workshop is open to folks 14+ years of age.

Prerequisite: Brothers Sewing Machine Orientation class.

What to Bring to Class on Tuesday, October 15th:

  • Fabric: You can either purchase fabric at the Fiber Arts Studio during the workshop ($5 - please bring cash or check made out to BARN), OR come with your own choice of fabric for your napkins.
IF YOU WANT TO BRING YOUR OWN FABRIC:
  • Medium-weight woven cotton is best for casual napkins using a narrow hem, because it will hold up with repeated washing.  (Esther's Fabric in downtown Winslow is a good choice for finding your fabric).
  • Linen or tightly woven cotton make wonderful formal napkins using a wide hem.
  • One yard of 45” fabric will make four 17” napkins with a narrow casual mitered corner.

To adjust for your size preference, use the following formulas:

  • Add 1” to your finished measurement for a casual mitered corner napkin.
  • Add 2 ½” to your finished measurement for a formal mitered corner napkin.
