Celebrate spring and Earth Day at BARN with a conversation on local and global foraging. Bloedel Reserve's Resident Artist GinaRae LaCerva will read an excerpt from her forthcoming book, Banquet in the Ruins, and present photos from her research trips to remote regions of Borneo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Sweden. Heather Wolf will join GinaRae in a conversation about our relationship with the earth, our food, and our humanity. A sample of one or more locally foraged foods will be available.

GinaRae LaCerva is a geographer and environmental anthropologist. She holds a Masters of Environmental Science from Yale University’s School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and a Masters of Philosophy from The University of Cambridge. An adventurer at heart, LaCerva has researched tsunamis in Indonesia, crossed the Pa. zcific Ocean on a sailboat, and gone scuba diving with barracudas. Her love of wild food began in childhood, as she grew up exploring the majestic mountains of northern New Mexico. She is dedicated to writing about environmental science and philosophy in ways that both personalize and contextualize dense academic research, broadening the scope of engagement with these subjects to scientists and non-scientists alike.

Heather Wolf comes from an island in the Salish Sea, in the Pacific Northwest. She has a deep reverence for the magic of fermentation, plants, bees, the healing alchemy of herbal brews, and ancient culture. Her work centers around the mandala of folk wisdom traditions that create the foundation for healthy living culture. Heather is a multidisciplinary artist. She has a background of immersive study and practice in a wide variety of world folk traditions, including herbalism and healing modalities, fermentation and food-as-medicine, mythology, ritual arts, dance, music, theater, sacred talking circle work, and undergraduate studies from Sarah Lawrence College and The Evergreen State College. She is Co-Founder and Founding Brewess of Iggy's Alive and Cultured, where her Honeybrew Kombucha formulations are inspired by old world herbal tonic traditions. Heather is Co-Founder of The Wheel Medicine, an herbal medicine education collective. She serves on the board of CIT: Circle in Truth, and facilitates talking circles for teens and adults. She is a performing artist and folk singer.
