About

Tuesday, March 21, 6-8:30 pm

BARN member: $21
Non-member: $25

Join Sallie Brown and Teri Smith as they walk you through the basic steps of using two popular authoring software tools—WriteItNow and Scriveners.

Authoring software is a great way to stay organized and uncluttered while writing that novel, memoir, play, children’s book, research paper, or lengthy essay. You can create chapters or sections, move them around quickly, and add scenes.

You can list your characters, their descriptions, and a picture. Develop events or an outline and reorder them as you change your mind. You can save previous versions of your work.

Tools are available in the programs that will help you perfect your work. View your work in storyboard or corkboard format. Use tools to critique and examine your prose; see how often you used a certain phrase, document family relationships, and more. Learn how to easily get a word count for your entire project or a given chapter. Best of all, you can easily find where you put “things.”

When your project is complete, you can create a perfectly formatted document, in Word for example.

If you already own WriteItNow or Scriveners, feel free to bring your laptop and follow along with the demonstrations.
