This is a two session class. In session 1 the student will start with a solid block of wood and the basic box will be laid out using French curves and flexible curve tools. Using a band saw the student will cut the parts to create a Band Saw Box. The box will be assembled and glued. Final cuts will be made on the band saw and the box will be ready for embellishment. 

In Session 2 embellishing techniques will be demonstrated and discussed. The student will then carve, using both hand chisels and power carvers.  These techniques will be used by the students to decorate the box. The finale discussion will be about using Milk Paint to further embellish the box. 

A materials fee of $35 will be added when you register. The material fee will cover the cost of the wood blanks, Milk Paint and disposables.

Instructor: Brad Stave - Brad began working with wood at the age of 5 when he received his first toolbox. After graduating from college he remained true to his heart.  Brad realized that working with wood was not enough and wanted to share his love through teaching. Brad taught Graphic Arts in Mukilteo, WA and then moved to Wyoming, where he taught woodworking to Arapaho and Shoshone Native American Children (grades 3-8).  

In 1985, Brad moved to California where he started a new job and became a father of a baby daughter.  Sensing her husbands need to find some avenue to work with wood, his wife Silvia bought him a wood lathe. And from that point on, Brad knew he had found his niche. Brad says, “Of all the creative endeavors I have pursued, wood turning has been the most rewarding, it is the pursuit of my heart.” In 2006 Brad moved back home to the Pacific Northwest where Gig Harbor is now home.
